Some say that in Portugal there are over 360 different recipes for preparing the cod, one for each day of the year, but others say they are 1.001, because every day they invent a new one. Not surprisingly this fish is considered the King of Portuguese cuisine and centuries is extracted from the northern seas and called "the faithful friend." The annual fish consumption per capita in Portugal is more than 60 kilograms what brings this country to figures such as Japan. Its nearly 1,800 kilometers of coastline make fishing is very important but curiously Lusa fishing fleet contributes only 2% of bacalhau consumed in Portugal, the rest is imported mainly from Russia, Norway, Iceland, Canada and the United States. The income per capita annual consumption of cod in Portugal is six kilos, ten times more than in Spain.
Sure you come to mind some of the recipes of most famous Portuguese cod but I bring you today is largely unknown but delicious and easy to prepare.
