Oyster Tasting

Last week I had the pleasure of attending a tasting of different types of oysters and French delicatessen held at the French Embassy in Madrid.

Due to the recent opening of the outlet of the French oyster producer Daniel Sorlut at the newly opened San Miguel Market in Madrid, Mr. Bruno Delaye, HE Ambassador of France to Spain and Spain Sorlut Group invited us to this fantastic tasting where besides its oysters could try gin Rives, Lallier champagne, white wine Baron Thomieres the region of Gaillac, Caviar Baikal and other great and new truffle caviar called Caviar Truffe Façon.

Oysters with Caviar Daniel Sorlut

The tasting was fantastic. Oysters were preceded by artisan bread and butter, one truffle with truffle caviar. Daniel Sorlut oysters could taste the caviar with the two and both were fantastic. Very unique and original that it sorporendente truffle in sight and in the mouth. The palace and beautiful garden which houses the French Embassy were a privileged place for tasting.

Caviar Baikal

Daniel Sorlut establishments have a special relationship with Spain as the owner's daughter, Laure Sorlut, extended part of their studies in Spain, which he considers as his adopted country. His teammate, Hervé nuée, not far behind, as all his mother's family is Spanish. In addition, the godmother of his son is Aragon and resides in Zaragoza. Therefore, and for six years, Daniel Sorlut to participate in food fairs throughout the Spanish territory.

Considered by many to be the aristocracy of mollusks, oysters have long been delighting the palates of a European public urbanite and follower of the latest culinary trends. In Spain, the consumption of traded, while aphrodisiac mollusk, is growing steadily thanks to the boom of the oyster bars, the presence of this delicate bivalve in the letters of hotels and restaurants or in the windows of shops, well as the finest food markets.

Hall of the Embassy of France

To meet this growing demand, Sorlut Daniel, one of the largest producers of France, has chosen the Spanish market to open its first exclusive outlet in the Mercado de San Miguel de Madrid.

The Market of San Miguel, located next to Plaza Mayor in Madrid, is a private market as most outstanding feature is that it retains its original iron structure of the early twentieth century. It was built between 1913 and 1916 under the supervision of the architect Alfonso Dubé, who was inspired by other European markets made in iron such as Las Halles in Paris. The latest renovation, carried out in 1999, returned to its original market. However, his business was declining gradually unable to compete with modern supermarkets and shopping centers in the area.

To avoid closure, a group of individuals with architectural concerns, dining and different cultural and social society founded The Gastródomo of San Miguel. Its aim is to revive and enhance its traditional range of products featuring a high quality, seasonal food, culinary advice and the possibility of eating in broad and flexible schedules.
