Chamberí is one of the most traditional neighborhoods and most atmospheric of Madrid. For work and personal is an area I know well, and I like to walk with any excuse. One of the reasons why I usually go there is to enjoy a nice evening together with friends, which of course, share the enjoyment of gastronomy.

One of our favorite places is this restaurant that I will speak: Paulino. This restaurant has more than 50 years, and apparently the owners are two brothers who inherited the love for this work so hard to the hotel from his father who ran another restaurant. The sons founded the "eating house" by a stroke of fortune, to touch one of them the lottery, more than 50 years.

The restaurant provides meals for 50 people. Has just been restructured and has a more youthful, modern and clean is appreciated. Tables may suffer from being too close together, which makes the place a little noisy and uncomfortable. The service is correct, but the treatment is dispensed reminds me of the old restaurants in Castile, sins a bit of parsimony, a smile from time to time would be appreciated.

But let the fundamental reason that we repeat in this place of meeting which is none other than food. The menu is not extensive, but if you have some original things, and good quality they are to us a classic "Casa Pauline." The former are relatively simple dishes, but original and delicious. One of the first are a seafood cakes. They're kind of small very soft crepes filled with seafood and shellfish sauce. The dough is very thin wraps, stuffing and gravy just makes them very juicy.

We continue with a pâté with a vinaigrette with onion cut very thin, with a sweet touch, I guess I will have an addition of honey. With the pate as happens with ham, when good is an exceptional dish, and this is it. And last incoming ordered a sausage lasagna, made with onion sausage, is a striking plate, but to share and test of several not bad.

The second we ask, are less original and were not really up to the first: or the product quality, preparation, or the originality that may have little first. We savored a monkfish, a fish sauce and baked vegetables. The fish was hard, dry and nothing tasty. The second was another meat with cheese sauce, and something similar happened with the fish, was not at his point, too much passing, and a little hard. Nothing special.

Finally the desserts, which always ask a spectacular mint sorbet, very aromatic and light, but this day as nothing else was as usual.

The price is another positive aspect of this site, and left for about 40 euros per head. Quite adjusted to the prices paid in Madrid.

In short a restaurant worth going, but that was not our last visit to the height at which we are accustomed. I hope it was a day of bad luck than a series of circumstances things were not as usual, and will not happen as in many restaurants that are made with a customer and leave a name and falling into mediocrity so common in our days. Repeat and I'll tell you.
